Abstract:

Pollution, being a big issue for the whole world, is no different to India. The biggest contributor to the pollution is our power generating sector, and Thermal power plants being the largest one.

Thermal power, which contributes about 63% of total energy requirements, is powering the growing urban and rural population. Power generation capacities of current plants are being increased to meet the requirements of the country. But is the thermal push in tune with sustainable development? What about pollution? How about the people in the vicinity of the plant? How much are they being adversely affected? Are they being compensated?

Here, we try to answer all these pondering questions in a concise and crisp way. We bring a small explainer to you describing the process of power generation as well as pollution, being a hurdle in the way of sustainable development.
