Mary Mathew

Professor

Mary Mathew has been a teacher of English Literature in Mount Carmel College for more than three decades. Her passion is, of course, the classroom, and interacting with students from all walks of life. She freely confesses to a love of the world of books, and the teeming world around her. Her MPhil dissertation on the Teaching of Fiction with specific reference to Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’ has become a benchmark for those teaching and studying the genre of the novel. This former head of the department ( having served as a textbook committee member for the Bangalore University), is interested in bringing about changes in perspectives and pedagogical practice within the teaching community.
